Adam and Eve

detail

Adam and Eve

He drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden.
He placed the Cherubim with a flaming sword, which turned every way,
to guard the way to the tree of life.

The scene is from Genesis 3:24. At the top left of the image is God's Cherubim Angel with sword in hand pointing at a fleeing Adam and Eve. The two run naked from the Angel and out of the Garden Of Eden, a blissful world shown in a kaleidoscope of luminous colors and patterns.

John August Swanson's 2016 giclee, ADAM AND EVE, revisits one of the artist's earliest paintings from 1969. Enlarged in size and reimagined in vivid colors (brighter and more saturated), the new artwork is enhanced with additional details and embellishments. To protect the image from ultraviolet light, a glossy varnish was printed over the artwork.
