Description

Spectators line the streets. They lean over railings and look over shoulders, while families rush to their windows, all trying to catch a glimpse of the wonderful surprises of the great circus parade.

The dignity of the human person and the common good rank higher than the comfort of those who refuse to renounce  their privileges. When these values are threatened, a prophetic voice must be raised.
Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, 2013

Circus performers can encourage us to confront our most deeply felt anxieties and inhibitions: our fears of being laughed at, of taking risks, and trying new things.

Because Swanson printed giclee editions in smaller batches, only those printed during his lifetime are signed by the artist. The remaining prints from the edition are made using the same image he created and approved, but with his signature printed where he would have signed them.
